April 20th, 2010 - Hatching eggs are still for sale on ebay (username gray_hen) but not for long! The weather is warming up and my hens are starting to go broody. A second small batch of my own eggs are in the incubator -- leftovers and extras from the ones I collected for selling.
I've started the Araucana facebook group - if you'd like to join, please go to the Home page or Contact page and click on the blue Facebook button!
The Araucana Video Project is well under way - visit the Videos page to see them! More videos will be coming soon.
March 20th, 2010 - My 3rd ebay hatching egg auction of 2010 ends tonight! Eggs are being gathered for shipping, and in addition I've got 25 eggs in the incubator and another 10 under a broody hen.
All the extra roosters around here are causing a ruckus - we plan to butcher them tomorrow, hopefully it'll be a little quieter around here come Monday morning!
We had a calf born last week, unfortunately his mother refuses to have anything to do with him, so now I'm bottle feeding him in the mornings and evenings, and taking him out to the pasture to socialize with the other cattle during the day. And here I thought I was busy already!
I've some tomato and herb seedlings in the laundry room that will need transplanting soon... and I've been considering putting up a temporary sign and cooler out by the road to sell eating eggs - just to test the waters of the local market, get a feel for what demand might be like. If people snatch them up immediately I may order 25 laying hens from a hatchery to keep up with demand. I was thinking maybe Blue Andalusians for white eggs and Cuckoo Marans for brown.
In any case, spring has definitely sprung, and it's an exciting time!
